Comments: Starting right in the heart of Christchurch City, this route is packed with some of the best roads, scenery and adventure the region has to offer! Expect a fantastic mix of twisty tarmac, gravel roads and spectacular views as you make your way towards the charming town of Akaroa.

A few things are worth noting before you set off. The first gravel section is a legal road, but it is also popular with walkers and cyclists, so please ride respectfully, slow down when passing and help keep this great route enjoyable and open for everyone. The final section of Bayview Road, where it drops down into Purau Bay, is an unmaintained paper road. In wet winter conditions it can become muddy and challenging, so an alternative route has been included to bypass this section if needed. Make sure you download this GPX file before heading out!

The rest of the route is easy-going adventure riding, with plenty of flowing gravel and twisty tarmac to keep you smiling. Just keep your eyes on the road and try not to spend too much time thinking about the cliff edges! The Akaroa Lighthouse makes the perfect photo stop at the end of the route, and with some great cafés and bars nearby, there is no better place to relax and enjoy a well-earned rest after an epic day of riding.
