Comments:Â If you're chasing big mountain scenery and an unforgettable day in the saddle, this route delivers in spades. From the moment the gravel begins, you're treated to towering snow-capped peaks, crystal-clear alpine lakes, and rugged backcountry that feels a world away from civilisation. It's no surprise these landscapes earned a starring role in The Lord of the Rings.
The main route follows a well-maintained gravel road that's enjoyable on any adventure bike, but there are plenty of side tracks branching off for riders keen to crank up the adventure and explore even deeper into the high country.
Just when you think you're completely off the grid, you'll come across a café and lodge tucked away in the wilderness. It feels almost impossible that somewhere this remote serves great coffee, making it the perfect place to stop and soak in the epic alpine views before pointing the front wheel towards home.
