Comments: This route is pure adventure riding gold—a true off-the-beaten-track experience that takes you through the heart of the South Island. If you're looking to escape the crowds, this is the perfect alternative to the Rainbow Road or the Molesworth. With spectacular backcountry scenery, endless gravel, and a real sense of remoteness, it's the kind of ride you'll be talking about long after it's over. Best of all, it's open all year, so the adventure never has to wait.

Expect a handful of stream and small river crossings along the way, adding to the adventure. The Porika section is the most challenging part of the route, with a steep climb that demands respect, so take your time and ride to the conditions. Around halfway through, the friendly town of Murchison is the perfect place to take a break, refuel yourself, and enjoy one of its excellent cafés before tackling the rest of the journey.
