Comments: The ride from Hanmer Springs to Blenheim via the Molesworth Road is one of New Zealand's iconic adventure motorcycling journeys. Leaving Hanmer Springs, the route begins with the scenic climb over Jollies Pass before entering the vast open landscapes of Molesworth Station, where endless gravel roads, sweeping valleys, braided rivers, and rugged mountain scenery provide an unforgettable riding experience. With almost 200km between Hanmer Springs and Blenheim, this remote route demands a little preparation—there is no petrol available anywhere along the Molesworth Road, so ensure you have enough fuel to complete the journey. It's also wise to carry plenty of drinking water and a few snacks, as there are no shops or services once you leave Hanmer Springs. The Molesworth Road is generally open from 1 October until mid-April, with access between 7:00am and 7:00pm, although closures can occur due to weather, fire risk, or station operations, so it's worth checking conditions before you travel. The adventure concludes with the winding gravel climb and descent over Taylors Pass, offering spectacular views before the road turns to seal and leads into Blenheim, making for a fitting finish to one of the South Island's premier adventure rides.
