Comments: The ride from Hanmer Springs to St Arnaud via the Rainbow Road is one of New Zealand's premier adventure motorcycling experiences, offering spectacular high-country scenery, rugged mountain valleys, remote river crossings, and unforgettable gravel riding through the heart of the Southern Alps. As this is a privately operated road, riders are required to pay a toll along the route and it's recommended to carry cash. The Rainbow Road is typically open from 26 December until late April, with seasonal closures due to wash outs and weather conditions. Riders should also be aware that there are multiple fords and water crossings, which can become dangerous or impassable after heavy rain, so always check conditions before setting out. With its stunning landscapes, isolated wilderness, and rewarding mix of gravel roads and alpine views, the Rainbow Road is a bucket-list ride for any adventure motorcyclist exploring the South Island.

Toll fee, cash only $30 Motorbike, $60 car
